Our Gotcha Day

Friday, January 27th, 2012

For those of you who followed our adoption process over the last couple years… I finally finished our Gotcha Day video. This journey opened our hearts and lives to Ethiopia. The last two years changed us as a family in more ways than one. We no longer have a love and a passion for “those kids over there”… instead, “those kids over there” now have a name and face that have forever captured our hearts. God has called us to take care of the widow and the orphan. We believe that when God looks down, He doesn’t ask “Why did you go all the way over there?” or see children limited by geographical boundaries and countries divided by oceans. Instead, we believe He sees these little ones which He created and expects us to love! This was our journey, it’s not the same journey for everyone, but it’s definitely ours!

Hope you enjoy it!  You can learn more about Ethiopia and our experience at www.longingforafrica.com

Piece of my heart-

Friday, May 13th, 2011

“I’ll say come on, come on, come on, come on, yeah take it!
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby. (break a..)
Break another little bit of my heart now, darling, yeah, (come on…)
Have another little piece of my heart now, baby, yeah…”

I believe Janice Joplin was onto something there. That’s a little of how I’ve been feeling lately. My wife posted this video the other day on our Longing for Africa site. These are a couple ministries that we’ve become acquainted with over the past year. All I can say is, that while we love our home and are amazed at how God continue to bless us, our heart is STILL breaking every time we see and think of Ethiopia. Our adoption continues to change our lives and hearts every day. If you haven’t checked it out yet, head over to LONGINGFORAFRICA.COM and learn a little more about our journey…the process… and the ups and downs of adoption.

When God gives you a voice to make a make a difference- repost from longingforafrica.com

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Here’s what’s been on our minds lately… Please read through this post and consider signing the petition connected with the post.

My wife posted about it (HERE)

“My heart has been heavy over the last week with the news that the MOWA may reduce the number of files they review from 50 to 5 a day. This is a 90% cut in Ethiopian adoptions. Our adoption agency asked us to join them in advocating for the orphans in Ethiopia who have no family to call their own. Please join us in being a voice for the voiceless by either signing this petition today or by praying for the children in Ethiopia and for the MOWA as a they seek a solution to better the Ethiopian adoption process. Here is great article in conjuction with this.

I am 110% behind ethical adoptions and agencies. If you are considering adopting or in the process of adopting, it is worth it even with all the bumps in the road. I do encourage you to thoroughly research the agency you go through. Interview lots and ask lots of questions. One thing I love about AGCI is that they are concerned with what is in the BEST interest of the child…” (Click here to keep reading)

2010 Christmas Prayer… The Orphan

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

This morning, during our all-staff meeting, our Executive Pastor challenged us to end our time with a “Christmas Prayer”. This prayer was to be a prayer that you have for the entire Christmas season. After thinking through my laundry list of wants…wishes…and desires for the holiday season here’s what I’ve come up with:

Christmas prayer

This year, our world is being turned upside down with the adoption of our daughter from Ethiopia. We’re looking at EVERYTHING a little differently. When I think of my wants, I see the faces of orphans that I’ve held and kissed just a few days ago. When I think of my wishes, I remember the smell of urine that permeated the government orphanage we visited. When I think of my desires, I hear the sounds of children singing as they long for a home and a family to call their own.

My Christmas Prayer this year is to never get over this year. I pray that it’ll mess our family up for a very long time… never to recover. This year, we’re praying for the helpless, the hurting , the hungry, the orphan.

What’s your Christmas prayer this year?
