The smell of orange groves off in the distance…
Thursday, April 28th, 2011If you are like me… you REALLY wanted to be in Atlanta right now, but for one reason or another can’t. If you’re like me… you’re a little bitter inside. If you’re like me you’re desperately trying to keep up with the Orange Leaders Blog (HERE). If you’re like me you’re watching the interview live (HERE) at The Making of Orange. AND… if you’re like me… it’s not enough! You need to be sure to catch one of the Orange Tours (HERE). Have fun people… don’t worry about me… I’m just sitting here at home talking to myself in my mirror in my split Reggie / Lanny way. It’s almost as if I’m right there with you!

When your passion becomes a burden
Monday, April 25th, 2011Here’s a confession I have to make. Sometimes my passion slips into a burden. Here’s what I mean. I can find myself feeling burdened by the very thing that I was so passionate about only a few years ago. Have you been there? Have you ever chosen to volunteer for something that you’re passionate about only to find yourself complaining about it after serving.
Here’s some observations about this transition:
Carrying a burden:
It’s Draining
It’s Heavy
It’s Punish-oriented
It’s Required
It’s frustrated
You want everyone to experience it for YOUR benefit
Living out your passion:
Is Energy giving
Is a privilege / blessing
You wake up early ready to go
It’s satisfying
You’re happy
You want everyone to experience it for his or her benefit
So…here’s how I regained my passion during this time:
First: Take a trip
Start this journey with the question, “Why was I passionate about this?”
Then ask, “What happened to this passion?”
Write this out:
I give myself permission to forget some of may past experiences for the next couple weeks. Then sign it! And forget (just for a bit) the negative experiences that have drained you over the last few years.
Second: Look at it differently again
Look at this again from a fresh perspective. How can YOU reinvent this passion?
Third: Spend time with encouraging people
Find some people who are passionate about what you use to be passionate about. Tell them that you’ve got a rotten attitude and need help getting out. (Then let them go to work!)
Fourth: Learn something new
The fourth thing I did was that I took up a new hobby related to this passion. I discovered that I love to learn.
Finally: Write it out…
Journal this experience. Write what you’re discovering. Something happens when you take the time write it out.
If you find yourself burdened by what you use to be passionate about… give it a try! Hope this helps.

Three things I hate…
Thursday, April 14th, 20111) The way people have gotten so use to an instant response to everything (via email and text). Come on people! What did we do before the day of email? Can we all agree that we’re way too impatient these days?
2) When I’m heading out the door to go home and I’m stopped for a second …that turns into 15 minutes. Love to talk…hate to be late for dinner!
3) Being too busy to keep up with my blogging peeps… Hoping to find some time in the next couple days to catch up. –anybody want to help? Just write something up and send it to familyregeneration@gmail.com and it might just make it on the blog!
