3 distinctions between family ministry and ministering to families
Family Ministry vs. Ministering to Families:
DISTINCTION #1
Ministering to families
A target is drawn around children, students, adults in separate silos.
Family Ministry
A target is drawn around the family as a whole.
DISTINCTION #2
Ministering to families
Leaders of age specific ministries each have a separate vision for their ministry.
Family Ministry
The church has one cohesive vision that flows through every area of church life.
DISTINCTION #3
Ministering to families
Age appropriate environments are created for the purpose of both spiritual and physical growth. A message is inadvertently communicated to parents that reaching children or students is a job for professional youth workers, which can leave the parent feeling inadequate for the task.
Family Ministry
Although, age appropriate environments can be used to facilitate growth, the church acknowledges the responsibility of utilizing multigenerational environments where families are encouraged to grow and to serve together. This leaves the parents enabled to disciple their children as a family.
